• Events The family of the former president of Angola asks for protection due to the suspicion that they tried to assassinate him

The former president of Angola J

osé Eduardo dos Santos

died in Barcelona this Friday after spending several weeks connected to life support after being hospitalized at the Teknon clinic.

The Government of the African country announced the news, in addition to stressing that "it bows with the greatest respect and consideration" to this "historical" figure who "ruled the destiny of the Angolan nation with clarity and humanism during very difficult years."

Five days of national mourning were decreed beginning Saturday to honor his memory.

However, suspicions remain over his death.

Five days ago the daughter of the deceased,

Tchizé dos Santos

, reported a plot to the Mossos d'Esquadra to end the life of her father and asked for protection.

After learning of her death, Tchizé urged that the body of the former president be preserved and that it not be handed over until the appropriate autopsy is carried out, fearing that it could be transferred to Angola.

The complaint was for the alleged crimes of attempted homicide, omission of the duty of assistance, injuries due to serious negligence and disclosure of secrets by people around him.

The family is represented by the offices of Carmen Varela Family Lawyers and Molins Criminal Defense.

Dos Santos governed Angola between 1979 and 2017 and was one of the African leaders who remained in power for the longest time, although his mandate was marked by cases of corruption.
