• DelPozo Fashion: from dressing Melania Trump and Queen Letizia to absolute ostracism

  • NATO Summit The espadrilles for which Jill Biden collapsed the Salamanca neighborhood

It is no secret that Queen Letizia has a predilection for Spanish fashion and that it is recurrent that her outfits bear the stamp of

made in Spain

.

The Murcian businessman

Santos Picón

is responsible for some espadrilles that

Doña Letizia wore two years ago in a navy blue tone

and that bear her name.

Santos is the owner of Calzados Picón, a brand that was born in

Caravaca de la Cruz

(Murcia) and is a benchmark for its customers.

Not only Queen Letizia has succumbed to the designs of Calzados Picón, but also the future heir to the Spanish Crown.

Leonor wore Picón espadrilles

in her last appearance on the occasion of the awards ceremony of the Princess of Girona Foundation.

For Santos, who has spent his entire life dedicated to the espadrille trade, this is a

great pride

.

"For someone like the Queen to put on some espadrilles of yours and repeat and her girls also put them on because it

is a great satisfaction and the answer

that we are doing well," Santos Picón confesses to LOC.

"The Queen bought one of our models, she liked it and then we made some exclusives

for her that actually

have her name

on them," he continues.

On the Calzados Picón website you can check that the Letizia espadrilles appear.

There are also them with the name of Leonor and Sofía.

"We put popular names, there are also those of my girls. On the web there are not many models because we usually sell to large stores that sell medium-priced products such as El Corte Inglés. We

select our clients very well."

The journey of this businessman comes from afar.

While studying for an Industrial Master's degree, he worked in the summer as an employee in an espadrille factory.

He learned the trade and when he finished his studies he founded his company in 1978.

"We have been making espadrilles for 44 years.

We respect the environment as much as possible, we work with 100% natural materials and we also have a vegan section for those who do not want materials that come from animals".

Santos acknowledges that there has been some brand that has tried to buy the factory.

He has refused because he considers that "it is his life" and at almost 66 years of age he does not think about retiring.

"My dream is to make espadrilles.

We have been well positioned in the market for a few years and they value us a little more each time. At the moment I do not plan to retire.

This espadrilles thing carries some poison because it has me trapped.

It is like children: you are well with them even if they give you a lot of trouble".

The architect of the Queen's espadrilles is aware of his 66 years.

It is not in vain that he confesses between laughs that he is a "carlanco" as people who are no longer young are said colloquially in Murcia.

However, he keeps intact the desire to continue growing and showing that his espadrilles have a very high quality.

In fact,

he already has his next client in mind.

This is the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso.

"I would be very excited to give Ayuso some espadrilles.

I don't know her personally and yet

I have a lot of affection for her.

I like her as a politician, I like her ways and the courage she has... I like to see her on TV, how she feels She defends... She doesn't hold back. I

see her as President of the Government

.

He would make her some exclusive espadrilles."
