This was reported by the press service of the Kremlin.

“Dear Ms. Yoko Abe, dear Ms. Akie Abe, please accept our deepest condolences on the passing of your son and husband, Shinzo Abe.

The hand of a criminal cut short the life of an outstanding statesman who headed the Japanese government for a long time and did a lot to develop good neighborly relations between our countries,” he said.

According to him, the bright memory of this wonderful man will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

“I wish you and your family fortitude and courage in the face of this heavy, irreparable loss,” Putin added.

Earlier it was reported that Abe was assassinated during his street speech during the election campaign in the city of Nara.

Shortly thereafter, he died in the hospital.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the Russian side was stunned by the assassination attempt on former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and considers the incident an act of terrorism.
