LGTBI Pride is back in Madrid after two years of hiatus due to the pandemic.

But far from being the usual celebration and claim that the streets of Madrid lived in the pre-Covid stage, this edition

has become a battle between organizers and the City Council, which has even been transferred to the municipal government

due to the disparity of criteria of PP and Citizens.

The announcement of the suspension of the concerts in the Plaza del Rey, just 24 hours before the start, on Tuesday night, lit the last fire.

At least for now.

The City Council assures that the works in that enclave prevent guaranteeing the evacuation of people, according to the technical reports made by the Fire Department, Samur and the Municipal Police.

Some reports that Cibeles has since Monday of last week.

But

the suspension of the events did not come until this Tuesday, eight days later and just on the eve of the proclamation.

"The Works Area has tried from Monday to Friday to make the square as practicable as possible,

we thought we were going to be able to get there, but it has not been possible

," said the deputy mayor, Begoña Villacís, who opened the possibility of moving that scenario yesterday. to the Plaza de Barceló and that he excused himself in "the problems of delays" of many works in the capital to justify the cancellation.

The mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, decided to close ranks with his municipal services stating that the safety of the attendees comes "first" and is "essential for the Madrid City Council".

"

I ask that the professionalism of the Municipal Police, the Fire Department and the SAMUR-Civil Protection not be doubted

", concluded the mayor of the capital, who reiterated that he will not enter into "any controversy or confrontation with what stains the Pride image.

But the relationship between the organizers and the municipal government has already been eroding for weeks due to the absence of the flag hanging in Cibeles, due to the organizers' accusations of "LGTBIphobia" against the mayor and due to the non-exemption of noise limits during the Pride days.

It is this last point that has also caused the clash between PP and Ciudadanos.

It is the Vice Mayor's Office, that of Villacís, who commands the organization of the event at its own request, according to municipal sources.

But the noise limits are established by the Environment and Mobility Area, which is directed by the

popular

Borja Carabante.

This department has opted from the outset not to exempt noise limits, arguing that they could be denounced by the Environmental Prosecutor's Office as it is a Special Acoustic Protection Zone and that neighborhood rest should be guaranteed.

In fact, even from the faction of the PP

, it was even proposed to transfer these powers to the Vice Mayor

's Office and that it be that area that signed the exemption since Villacís had voted in favor of that measure in the plenary session last June.

"I am in favor of the elimination of the acoustic limit. I understand their reasons and that they are cured in health because there could be neighbors who denounced, but I am in favor of doing it like every year," the municipal number two, favorable to the exemption that was made in the stage of Manuela Carmena.

"It is a more common tool than we think, many towns have it in their ordinances and use it for their patron saint festivities.

These tools are there to be used, I understand the reluctance of the councilor, but if I had powers I would have exempted the noise

, "he concluded. the deputy mayor.
