Trial The alleged murderer of Marta Calvo denies the facts: "I felt very unhappy, I just wanted to have a good time"
Jorge Ignacio Palma
denied everything.
In his first statement in the trial against him for the death of Marta Calvo,
Arliene Ramos
and
Lady Marcela Vargas
, he assured this Wednesday that he was not behind the death of these three young women, although in the case of Marta he admitted dismembering her after which was, in his own words, an "accident".
Now he faces the reviewable permanent prison sentence requested by the accusations, including Marta Calvo's mother, Marisol Burón, who regretted that the defendant's statement has not served to find out where her daughter's body is.
The
Public Prosecutor
's Office , for its part, has requested this Thursday sentences that add up to 120 years in prison for sexual abuse as a necessary means for a crime of homicide committed against the three women, sexual abuse against ten other women and a crime against public health.
The Prosecutor's Office initially requested 130 years in prison for three crimes of homicide, eleven of sexual abuse and one against public health.
However, it has finally reduced them by ten years due to the withdrawal of the private accusation of one of the women, who preferred "not to relive the nightmare".
The accusations in the jury trial and the Prosecutor's Office presented their conclusions on the deaths of these women and the abuses allegedly committed by Jorge Ignacio Palma in sexual encounters in which he would have introduced cocaine into the genitals of his victims.
The so-called "white parties" that, according to the defendant, were consensual and never ended with the introduction of the drug into the vagina and anus of their victims.
Along these lines, his lawyer maintains the request for acquittal for him, since he has defended that he is a "consumer of narcotic and toxic substances" and therefore concurs the modifying circumstance of the criminal responsibility of drug addiction.
For the deaths of Marta, Arliene and Lady Marcela, the Prosecutor's Office has requested 15 years in prison for each of them, absolute disqualification, supervised release for ten years when he serves prison and compensation of 90,000 euros for Marta Calvo's parents, 180,000 euros for the minor children of Lady Marcela Vargas and 22,000 euros for the sister of Arliene Ramos.
For the rest of the victims of sexual abuse, seven in total, the Public Prosecutor's Office has requested 10 years in prison for each one for sexual abuse with aggravating gender and the prohibition to enter Valencia for twelve years, absolute disqualification, probation when serve prison and compensation for moral damages.
The lawyer of Marta Calvo's mother has specified that the defendant's refusal to specify where the young woman's body is "undermines and aggravates" the suffering of not having found the mortal remains, and has demanded a fine of 25,000 euros for a crime against public health and 150,000 euros for civil liability.
On the part of the father of the young woman, the prosecution has maintained the request for reviewable permanent prison and, in a subsidiary manner, 20 years for murder with surprise treachery, or 15 for homicide, and civil liability of 90,000 euros.
Jorge Ignacio Palma has been in provisional prison since the end of 2019, when he turned himself in and confessed to having dismembered Marta Calvo's body after finding her, according to his version, dead in bed.
In his statement he insisted again that her mortal remains were dumped in containers in Silla and Alzira, but the search that was undertaken for months was useless.
Now, his future is in the hands of a popular jury.
