It is reported by the NBC channel.

Chauvin is already serving a 22.5-year prison sentence for second- and third-degree murder.

At a federal trial in the case of violation of Floyd's civil rights, the prosecution demanded that the ex-cop be sentenced to 25 years in prison.

The judge sentenced Chauvin to 252 months in prison.

At the same time, the judge subtracted from them seven months, which Chauvin had already served.

It is noted that both sentences will be executed simultaneously.

Earlier it was reported that former American police officer Derek Chauvin, convicted of the murder of African American George Floyd, was sentenced by a court to 22.5 years in prison.

Black George Floyd died at the end of May 2020 shortly after being detained by police in Minneapolis.

One of the policemen held him down with a knee on his neck.

After the death of Floyd, mass protests began in the United States against racial discrimination and police violence.

On May 5, Chauvin filed a motion for a new trial.
