Boris Johnson resigns as Conservative Party leadership

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson resigned Thursday as chief executive of the Conservative Party after three turbulent years in which Britain left the European Union and beset by the Covid-19 pandemic and mounting scandals.

Johnson, 58, has announced that he will step down after a series of resignations this week from his government team in protest of his leadership, but will remain in the prime minister position until a replacement is elected.
