- There is high mobilization in Kalmar due to what has happened.

Everyone is on their toes to develop this, says Malin Holgert, operations manager at the social services.

After several high-profile shootings in Kalmar in the past six months, the municipality will work with a new method to get young criminals to break their lifestyle.

This after an addition of five million kronor to the social welfare committee.

The method, social action groups, already exists in a number of Swedish municipalities and can look a little different.

Central is that you can build a tailor-made team around an individual who lives a criminal lifestyle (see fact box).

Must want yourself

The effort is based on consent, the individual himself must therefore want to leave the crime.

Police and social services are always involved, but also other people in the individual's vicinity who share information with each other.

Therefore, the person at the center of the intervention must also approve the intervention.

For example, the group may consist of a football coach, a mother, a healthcare contact and a principal, who together with the police and social services both put pressure and offer alternatives to crime - to reduce the temptation to commit crime.

- It is to work together to turn the tide.

And it will look different according to the individual's needs, says Malin Holgert.

The initiative will first and foremost be aimed at people between the ages of 16 and 20, although the age range can be broadened in the future, according to Malin Holgert.
