“Dear Mr. President, please accept our sincere condolences on the untimely death of a prominent Nigerian statesman, Secretary General of the oil exporting countries, Mohammed Barkindo,” Putin’s telegram posted on the Kremlin’s website reads.

He noted that the OPEC Secretary General rightfully earned high international prestige.

The President of Russia added that Barkindo had made a significant contribution to the creation of the OPEC+ interaction mechanism.

Earlier, the head of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mele Kyari, announced the death of Mohammed Barkindo.
