In addition to the goal of creating a sustainable and controlled wild boar population, the focus is on reducing the damage to agricultural crops.

The number of traffic accidents where wild boars are involved is also wanted to be reduced to less than 250 per year for Östergötland.

The latest statistics for 2019–2021 show an average of just over 480 accidents annually.

As a national goal, they also want to increase the availability of wild boar meat by making it easier for hunters to sell to consumers.

Behind the decision are, among other things, representatives for hunting and game management, nature conservation, outdoor life, traffic safety and agriculture, all of whom are part of Östergötland's wildlife management delegation.
