It was when Jan-Olov and his colleague talked about growing something more than potatoes that they were advised to start apple growing.
The number of apple orchards in the country has increased somewhat in recent years and interest in courses in orcharding has grown at, among others, the Dalarna County Administrative Board.
Believe in domestic cultivation
The cultivation outside Hedemora is the first professional apple cultivation in Dalarna.
- For us, it is probably about the belief that we can have horticulture in Sweden and an interest in locally grown, says Jan-Olov Hedström.
There is some work left before the cultivation is finished, among other things, irrigation hoses will be in place and the ground by the trees will be leveled.
