A 60-year-old man was sentenced to eight years in prison on Tuesday by the Assize Court of Quimper (Finistère).

He was found guilty of attempted murder on October 2, 2018 on his former companion, indicates Le Télégramme

The accused had gone there to have an explanation with the victim after their breakup.

Faced with his refusal to discuss, the respondent said he felt a "pulse".

He kicked his ex-girlfriend in the head, hit her with a knife and tried to strangle her.

Fifteen minutes of violence

"I just wanted to hurt him psychologically," said the accused.

The attack lasted fifteen minutes, before the victim was saved by the intervention of a neighbor.

The defense lawyer pleaded acquittal, arguing that the intention to kill was not manifest, while the general counsel had requested fifteen years of criminal imprisonment.
