Four ministers resigned Tuesday in the Ecuadorian government and not the least: that of Health, Ximena Garzon, of the Economy, Simon Cueva, of Transport, Marcelo Cabrera, and of Higher Education, Alejandro Ribadeneira.

Businessman Pablo Arosemena has been appointed Minister of Economy.

Indeed, among

the dysfunctions pointed

out during the general strike, there is the health system.

Very badly in Ecuador for a long time, he was declared in a “

state of emergency

” by President Lasso under pressure from demonstrators ten days ago.

On the side of the economy, a former member of the IMF has been set aside, who has implemented in recent months a tax policy that has been much criticized by the poorest.

Roadmap

The Head of State, however, denies any pressure related to the strike movement “

I want it to be very clear: these are not forced changes because of the economic situation

, he declared.

On the contrary, they take place within the framework of the orderly accomplishment of stages of a coherent and long-term political vision.

Tomorrow, Thursday, a roadmap should be defined for the implementation of the various points of

the agreement signed between indigenous communities and the government

, apart from the reduction in the price of gasoline, which has already been applied.

Among what must be discussed, there is in particular the cancellation of farmers' debts or the non-privatization of public companies.

The government has 90 days to implement all the measures.
