Traffic was interrupted for almost two hours, very early this Wednesday morning on the A8.

The motorway had to be cut in the direction of Italy, between the Nice Est and Roquebrune Cap Martin interchanges after an accident involving a heavy goods vehicle which caught fire, indicates the concessionaire Vinci Autoroutes.

Slightly injured, the driver of the semi-trailer was transported to the Pasteur 2 hospital center, east of Nice.

The fire “spread to the vegetation”

The alert was triggered around 2:10 a.m.

And nearly 50 firefighters were mobilized to contain the fire which had "also spread to the vegetation", specified the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service of the Alpes-Maritimes.

Traffic was only able to resume around 4 a.m. and on a single lane, to allow the repair of the heavy goods vehicle and the restoration of the roadway.

The other lanes were gradually reopened and disruptions continued in the early morning.
