300 prisoners escape after Boko Haram attack on Nigerian prison

Nearly 300 prisoners have escaped after suspected Boko Haram militants attacked a prison outside the Nigerian capital, using explosives to free its detainees, a government official said Wednesday.

"We understood that they (the attackers) belonged to Boko Haram, and they came specifically for their co-conspirators... We have now recovered 300 out of about 600 people," senior Interior Ministry official Shwaybo Balgor told reporters after Tuesday night's attack on Kogi prison on the outskirts of Abuja. They escaped from prison.”
