Two teachers - a woman and a man - from the Desaix college in Tarbes were shot dead on Monday in the small village of Pouyastruc, in the Hautes-Pyrénées.

Here is what we know about this double homicide while at this stage a suspect is still wanted by the gendarmerie.

What happened ?

It was the inhabitants of Pouyastruc, a small village of 700 souls located about ten kilometers from Tarbes, who gave the alert on Monday, shortly after 6.30 p.m., after discovering a mortally wounded woman lying in a street in the town.

Arrived on the spot, the gendarmes found a second victim in a house a few meters away.

The man was already dead, shot too.

Who are the victims ?

The two teachers worked in the same establishment, the Desaix college in Tarbes, which on Monday, at the time of the double homicide, was organizing its end-of-year ball.

Aurélie Pardon was 32 years old and taught French.

She was the mother of two children and lived with her family in the small town of Barbazan-Dessus, close to Pouyastruc.

Gabriel Fourmigué was 55 years old and was a PE teacher.

Originally from the Gers, he was known for his sporting exploits.

He had won the world junior bobsleigh championship, before representing France at the Winter Olympics in Albertville in 1992 and those in Lillehammer, Norway, in 1994.

Who is the wanted suspect?

The inhabitants of Pouyastruc saw a man riding a motorbike at the time of the tragedy.

From a source close to the investigation, the suspicions of the gendarmes relate to the companion of Aurélie Pardon and father of her two children.

The man is in his thirties and the couple was in the process of separating, which lends credibility to the trail of a love rivalry.

Roadblocks, beaten, early Tuesday evening, the shooter was still wanted and around sixty soldiers were mobilized on the investigation or in the field.

Pierre Erignac, the public prosecutor of Tarbes, entrusted the investigations into this double homicide to the Tarbes research brigade and the Toulouse research section.
