The US State Department said - on Tuesday - that the United States wants the process of holding the killers of our colleague Sherine Abu Akle to account, to ensure that the killing of journalists in conflict areas is not repeated.

The ministry added that the conclusion reached by the American security coordinator is that the bullet that hit Shireen was fired from the positions of the Israeli forces.

The US State Department added that the US coordinator has been given the authority to review the Palestinian and Israeli investigations into this case, noting that Washington will continue to work with the Palestinian and Israeli parties to cooperate in the investigation and to ensure that the killers of Shireen Abu Akleh are held accountable.

She also said that the examination of the bullet that killed Shireen was carried out without Israeli or Palestinian participation.

She indicated that the American side is communicating closely with the family of the late colleague.

The US State Department's statements come a day after the issuance of a statement by the same ministry that avoided holding Israel responsible for the killing of Shirin Abu Akleh, as it was stated that the US coordinator, after being briefed on a Palestinian and an Israeli investigation, in addition to a forensic analysis of the projectile, found no reason to believe that Shirin's killing on Last May 11 in Jenin refugee camp (northern West Bank) was deliberate.

The conclusion reached by the American coordinator had provoked angry Palestinian reactions, as several Palestinian parties described the results reached by the Americans as biased towards the Israeli occupation.

An investigation by Al-Jazeera revealed a photo of the bullet that was assassinated by colleague Shireen Abu Aqleh, and military experts indicated that the bullets used were of the armor-piercing type.

The investigation showed a re-simulation using 3D technology, to learn more about the type of bullet used, its caliber, and the type of guns likely to be used to fire this type of bullets.

Other investigations - carried out by the media and international bodies - also showed a result identical to the investigation carried out by Al Jazeera.
