6:43 am: Macron and Scholz coordinate on the war in Ukraine

France and Germany once again show their support for kyiv.

Emmanuel Macron and Chancellor Olaf Scholz continued their "close coordination on the response to the war in Ukraine" during a working dinner Monday evening in Paris.

The two leaders thus met a week after a private dinner, on June 25, on the occasion of the G7 summit in the Bavarian Alps.

On the occasion of the Parisian dinner, the two leaders returned to “the major current issues at international, European and bilateral level”.

They were to discuss the independence of the EU in "energy, defense and strategic raw materials" but also the situation in the Sahel and the next Franco-German Council of Ministers.

6:34 am: Moscow threatens to attack the whole EU

The Kremlin is furious.

Moscow could go after the entire European Union in response to Bulgaria's expulsion of 70 members of the Russian diplomatic corps, a spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry warned on Monday.

“Sofia's politicized decision to unjustifiably reduce our diplomatic staff in Bulgaria will certainly not go unanswered bilaterally,” said Maria Zakharova.

Believing that the expulsion by Bulgaria went “far beyond diplomatic practice”, she urged Sofia and the EU to “reflect on the principle of reciprocity which underlies diplomatic relations”.

Russia's ambassador to Sofia on Friday considered closing her embassy in the country after Bulgaria refused to reverse its decision to expel 70 Russian diplomatic staff.

The EU for its part "regrets the unjustified threat of the Russian Federation to break diplomatic ties with Bulgaria", describing this measure as "disproportionate".

6:26 a.m .: Sweden promises support for kyiv and sanctions for Moscow

Visiting kyiv and its suburbs on Monday, Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson called for increased European support for Ukraine and new sanctions against Russia.

"Russia must not be allowed to make gains through its violation of international law and other fundamental principles," she said during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

"The best way to win this war is to build support for Ukraine and increase pressure on Russia through new sanctions," she said.

“Our efforts must continue as long as necessary,” she pleaded, believing that Ukraine was defending “our common European values”.
