The Kremlin said on Tuesday that no decision had been taken on converting Russian liquefied natural gas sales to the ruble.

And yesterday, Monday, the Interfax news agency quoted a senior manager of Gazprom as saying that the company may propose to expand the ruble scheme for gas transported by pipelines to include liquefied natural gas.

"No decisions have been taken in this regard at the moment, and there are no pre-prepared orders," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters by phone.

On Monday, Kirill Polos, deputy head of a division at Gazprom, said that there is competition in foreign exchange rates between pipeline gas sold in rubles and liquefied natural gas, which is taxed in dollars.

When asked whether the ruble-based LNG scheme could cover all LNG shipments from Russia - which mainly come from the "Sakhalin-2" project and the "Yamal" project led by "Novatec" - Peskov said that it is up to " Gazprom".

Neither Gazprom nor Novatek responded to Reuters requests for comment.
