Spread of covid-19 increases - oral protection requirements reintroduced for healthcare staff in Kronoberg

From Wednesday 6 July, healthcare staff in Kronoberg will wear mouth guards, in close contact with patients.

- We see a rising trend in the last five to six weeks, with a higher proportion of positive cases.

We did not expect the increased spread of infection to happen now, but later, says Hampus Hjorton, assistant infection control doctor.

"Must decide us"

At present, only healthcare professionals and patients are tested for covid-19.

The dark number can thus be large.

- We have to decide somewhere to protect the patients who are at risk of becoming seriously ill.

We cannot avoid introducing measures without a clear conscience.

We want to protect those who need to be protected.

Several other regions have already reintroduced the oral protection requirement, including the Kalmar County Region.
