At the meeting, Lu Yugang, director of the Department of Basic Education of the Ministry of Education, revealed that in 2021, the gross enrollment rate of senior high school education nationwide will further increase to 91.4%, an increase of 6.4 percentage points over 2012 as a whole.

  Lv Yugang also introduced that in the past ten years, the scale of ordinary high schools has continued to expand. In 2021, the total number of ordinary high schools nationwide will reach 14,600, and the number of students will reach 26.0503 million, an increase of 7.97% and 5.59% over 2012, respectively, providing more school-age students. Opportunity to receive a general high school education.

The gross enrolment rate has been continuously increasing. In 2020, the gross enrolment rate of senior high school education nationwide and in all provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) will reach more than 90%. This is the national goal of popularizing senior high school education by 2020 at that time, and will be achieved as scheduled in 2020. .

  The increase in popularization in the central and western regions is the largest. The Ministry of Education signed a memorandum of understanding on popularization with 10 provinces in the central and western regions where the level of popularization was relatively low, and established a ministry-province coordination mechanism to vigorously promote the popularization. The gross enrollment rate of these 10 provinces has increased on average in ten years. 17.02 percentage points, some provinces increased by nearly 30 percentage points, significantly narrowing the regional education development gap.
