The Presidential Council in Libya announced a plan to solve the political impasse in the country;

It includes preserving the country's unity and ending the division, calling for urgent consultations with the country's political parties, to achieve consensus on the details of the plan.

In a statement published by its media office, the council said that it held a number of meetings among its members in particular, and reached consensus on a general framework for an action plan that addresses the political blockage in the country.

He pointed out that Abdullah Al-Lafi, deputy in the Presidential Council, was assigned to conduct urgent consultations with the political parties to achieve consensus on their details, and to launch them later in the form of a road map with clear tracks and landmarks to end the transitional stages through the presidential and parliamentary elections within a specific time frame.

The council clarified that the most prominent elements governing the solution plan are to preserve the unity of the country, end the specter of war, end division, consolidate the state of existing peace, avoid chaos, reduce foreign interference and push for a national solution that takes precedence over everything else.

For its part, Al-Wasat TV quoted a source close to the council that the plan came after the council’s meeting today with 31 political parties, which authorized it to “take control of matters and issue sovereign decrees that end the transitional stages immediately.”

coastal road closure

In a related context, the United Nations Support Mission said it is following up with great concern reports of an intermittent closure of the coastal road west of the city of Sirte.

And she stressed, in a tweet on Twitter, the need to keep this vital road open in both directions, to ensure the free movement of people and goods between cities, calling on all parties to refrain from any provocative actions that could worsen the security situation in the country.

Stephanie Williams, advisor to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, said that citizens should not be deprived of their most basic rights, including freedom of movement between different regions of Libya.

A number of cities in western, eastern and southern Libya are witnessing demonstrations calling for the departure of all existing political institutions and the holding of elections without any delay.
