Laura Borràs

entrenches herself in the Presidency of the Parliament after being prosecuted for corruption and after the ERC has explicitly asked her to resign to "preserve the dignity" of the Catalan Chamber.

“I have no intention of taking a step to the side that those who want to remove me from political life demand of me,” Borràs warned in an institutional appearance plagued with reproaches to the formation chaired by

Oriol Junqueras

.

After the ERC used Carme Forcadell

last week

to demand that Borràs abandon his institutional responsibility after his prosecution became effective and he was one step away from the opening of an oral trial, the also president of Junts has blurted out: «The dignity of the Parliament we would have to preserve it among all avoiding the partisan temptations of taking refuge in the presumptions of guilt to eliminate a political adversary».

The

neo

-convergent has said that it does not feel "challenged" by article 25.4 of the Parliament, which provides that the Table "must agree to suspend the rights and duties of parliamentarians immediately once the act of opening the oral trial in the cases in which the accusation is for cases linked to crimes of corruption.

Borràs alleges that said article -which the ERC seizes to demand his departure- "violates the presumption of innocence" and defends that there are other deputies who maintain the minutes despite being awaiting trial.

Obvious, however, the President of the Parliament that none of these parliamentarians is being prosecuted for corruption and that the regulations of the Chamber impose the immediate cessation after the opening of trial whenever the crime allegedly committed has to do with corruption, as it happens in her case, since she has been prosecuted for prevarication, fraud, continued embezzlement and false documentation.

Borràs has also not resisted the temptation to wrap himself in the flag and has maintained that his case "would never have gone so far if it were not for who he is and for representing the political project he represents."
