Alikhanov noted that based on the information that the authorities of the Kaliningrad region receive from various sources, they "understand that work is in progress."

The governor added that there is a good chance that the work will be completed in the way the region and Russia as a whole need.

He also believes that a sustainable solution to the issue will be the adoption by the EU of a new package of sanctions with exceptions related to transit, or amendments to existing packages of restrictions.

In addition, Alikhanov said that if the deadlines announced by the European Union for resolving the issue of transit are not met, the authorities of the region will turn to the country's leadership with a proposal to take retaliatory measures.

On June 17, the Lithuanian Railways notified the Kaliningrad Railways of stopping the transit of a number of sanctioned goods.
