China News Agency, Beijing, July 4th (Xie Yanbing and Li Jingze) The 10th World Peace Forum with the theme of "Maintaining International Strategic Stability: Common, Comprehensive, and Cooperation" was held in Beijing from July 2 to 4.

At the meeting, Chinese and foreign experts fully discussed the European security situation and the inspiration brought by the conflict between Russia and Ukraine to the world. The experts generally agreed that it is particularly necessary to establish a new order based on dialogue and cooperation. Countries should conduct substantive dialogues to prevent military The conflict escalates and a new cold war is avoided.

"For a long time, many people believe that Europe is the safest place in the world, but today's status quo tells us that Europe is not such a place." Yan Xuetong, Secretary-General of the World Peace Forum, first proposed when chairing the discussion of the "European Security Order" conference the above thinking.

"The characteristics of the world now can be summarized as uncertainty and division." Former French Prime Minister De Villepin pointed out at the meeting, first, we are facing the crisis of a new Cold War; second, we must recognize the impact of geopolitics on the world order influence is growing.

After De Villepin's speech, Yan Xuetong asked him: "After the Cold War, Europe has experienced the Kosovo War, the Georgia War, and now the Ukraine War. What is the experience that European strategists have drawn from maintaining peace?"

In this regard, de Villepin believes that the most important lesson is to establish a new order based on dialogue and cooperation, and the second is that it is impossible to achieve global security without regional security.

At present, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine has lasted for more than four months. As the largest military conflict in Europe since the 21st century, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine has caused the security situation in Europe and the world to show a spiral of deterioration.

The representative from Russia, Chairman of the Russian International Affairs Committee Ivanov, believes that the Western countries led by the United States saw themselves as the only winners of the Cold War 30 years ago, and this belief has led them to continue to try to put the interests and priorities of the West. above other countries.

This is not in line with the principle of the sovereign equality of all countries, and has led to the current deep crisis.

Ivanov pointed out that the Russia-Ukraine conflict goes beyond the scope of Russia-Ukraine relations, and its impact directly affects every country in the corner of the world. Now the security risk in the European continent is higher than during the Cold War.

In order to prevent the escalation of military conflict, he hopes to restore the past or establish new channels of communication, start a truly substantive dialogue, and establish a comprehensive international legal framework to ensure European security.

EU Ambassador to China Yu Bai pointed out at the meeting on European security that security has always been the core of European construction and exists in Europe's DNA.

But security has never meant confrontation between East and West. The European security framework did not emerge from the Cold War, but learned from the lessons of the two world wars. Europe's desire is to never have war.

Feng Zhongping, director of the Institute of European Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, also said in a panel discussion on "Ukraine Crisis and European Security" that if a new Cold War emerges in Europe, it will endanger global security.

He pointed out that 70 years ago, the question of whether a third world war could be prevented was raised.

From the European experience of the past 70 years, we can draw some lessons: First, don't isolate neighbors, peace is built on dialogue.

Second, the establishment of peace requires political trust, and political mutual trust requires many interactions, including cultural, military, economic interactions, personnel exchanges, and so on.

"Don't let the Cold War return to Europe, and also don't let the Cold War return to the world." Feng Zhongping said.
