New judicial setback to linguistic immersion.

The Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) sees possible unconstitutionality in the decree of the Government and the new law approved by the Parliament on the teaching of official languages in schools.

Despite admitting that the decree of the Generalitat prevents the execution of the sentence that orders a minimum of 25% of Spanish in Catalan schools, the court considers that there are "serious doubts" about its validity since it has "unconstitutionality vices".

For this reason, the TSJC urges the Prosecutor's Office and the personal parties in the procedure to position themselves on the relevance of taking the Government's decree and the subsequent norm approved in Parliament on the use of languages in educational centers to the Constitutional Court.

The court remarks that these regulations "determine the legal impossibility" in a "supervening" way of executing its sentence that imposes a minimum of 25% of Spanish in teaching, since they define a linguistic model in the school environment "incompatible" with the parameters established in their judicial resolution, so they are forced to raise the issue before the Constitutional Court before deciding whether they can continue the process.
