In Sudan, four days after the bloody repression of the demonstrations of June 30, which left 9 dead and more than 600 injured, thousands of people gathered on Sunday July 3 in four peaceful sit-ins in several places in the capital.

After the resistance committees, the coalition of forces for freedom and change also calls for revolutionary escalation to reverse military power, also denouncing the violence of repression.

With our correspondent in Khartoum,

Eliott Brachet

In the popular district of el-Daeim, all the streets are barricaded.

After the bloody repression of June 30

, the activists decided to change their strategy:

“

At each demonstration our losses are enormous: deaths, injuries…

6,000 people have been injured in eight months.

People were blinded, others were amputated.

Others died.

We have lost nearly 120

martyrs

: that is enormous.

So here we are trying something completely peaceful.

 »

The atmosphere is festive.

Volunteers distribute water, food.

Some come from afar, from the northern districts of the capital, like Amana Idriss, 50, still on the front line

in the demonstrations

 :

“

Thank God we have amazing young people.

Students, engineers, doctors.

There is a whole society there before you.

Who will the military junta govern when they have killed all these young people

?

Sudan is here in the street.

They do not represent Sudan.

 »

The memory of June 3, 2019 is in everyone's mind, when a peaceful sit-in was dispersed in blood by soldiers: “

Of course there is fear, without a doubt.

But the revolution demands that we be brave.

We have to face death.

As our martyred brothers faced death

 ”.

Four such sit-ins have been improvised across the capital and the movement has already begun to spread to other cities in the country.
