After aid for the purchase of an electric bicycle, then those dedicated to the acquisition of a cargo bike, Nantes Métropole is changing its strategy.

From January 2023, grants may be paid for the purchase of all types of bicycles, subject to means testing.

Last week, the elected representatives of the metropolitan council approved the creation of new aid for those who plan to buy a classic, electric, cargo, tricycle or even an electrification kit for their bicycle.

"This new solidarity aid system responds to both climate issues and purchasing power issues," said Johanna Rolland, the president (PS) of Nantes Métropole.

In concrete terms, the eligibility criteria will be those which already apply for solidarity pricing in transport;

that is to say that will be concerned adults, whose family quotient is less than or equal to 900. The most precarious households may be granted between 150 euros for a classic bicycle and 1,500 for a scooter.

Some 1,500 beneficiaries could be affected per year, i.e. a total amount of 540,000 euros in subsidies, calculates the metropolis.
