CAIRO -

In a gesture that was widely acclaimed in Egypt, Alexandria Governorate opened the country's first beach for the blind, after allocating a space for them from the People of Determination Beach in the Mandara region on the Mediterranean coast.

The beach facilities allow the blind to go down to the sea and enjoy its waters - perhaps for the first time in their lives - without help from anyone, without this preventing the permanent monitoring of the beach to follow up on its goers and help them if needed.

Simple and effective idea

In turn, Head of the Central Administration for Tourism and Resorts Jamal Rashad said that the idea of the beach depends on allocating paths within the water, starting with an entrance on the beach that allows the entry of the individual, then moving and enjoying swimming.

Rashad explained in press statements that the visitor uses his hands to touch the cork marks "buoys", through which he learns the paths of movement within safe depths of water that allow him to move without the need for escorts.

The head of the Central Administration for Tourism and Resorts stressed that the track designated for the blind is subject to close supervision by the follow-up teams around the clock.

For his part, the Governor of Alexandria, Mohamed Al-Sharif, explained that the beach was opened last year, and it is completely free, and included a special space for people of determination who are unable to move, and this year a new space was allocated for the blind.

A number of pioneers expressed great happiness at the new beach, and praised the idea that helped them enjoy the sea water, and also praised the safety measures provided by the beach management to them.

Nice initiative

The joy of the blind with their new beach was transmitted to social networking sites in Egypt, and the joy was spread among its pioneers, who widely exchanged photos of the blind beach, and their photos of them enjoying the sea water spread widely.

Tweeters expressed clear happiness with the beautiful initiative and its positive impact on the blind, especially children, and a large number of them praised the quality of services provided to beachgoers.

A number of social media pioneers demanded that the experience be reproduced in other coastal cities, as Egypt has long coastlines on the Mediterranean and Red Seas.
