The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai has signed an agreement with the Australian "Bus Tech" group, with the aim of experimenting with the operation of an environmentally friendly, emissions-free electric bus, to determine its applicability in the climatic conditions of the Emirate of Dubai.

The experiment also includes innovative technologies to enhance customer service, to ensure that the bus operates as a smart asset integrated with Dubai’s environmental mass transit system. The experiment will also measure the benefits and performance of the bus, and seek driver and customer feedback, to identify areas for improvement.

The agreement was signed by the Executive Director of the Public Transport Corporation, Ahmed Hashem Bahrozyan, on behalf of the Authority, while it was signed by Dan Marks, the CEO of the Bus Tech Group.

Behrozyan said that the agreement is the first agreement included in the memorandum of understanding signed between the authority and the Department of Transport and Main Roads of the Queensland government in Australia, to enhance the level of cooperation between the two parties.

He affirmed the authority's keenness to increase the number of electric and hybrid vehicles in its fleet.

For his part, Marks stressed that the group looks forward to strengthening cooperation between the Queensland government and Dubai, towards facilitating the introduction of environmentally friendly, zero-emission buses into the bus fleet in Dubai.
