After the killing of a black young man at the hands of the police, hundreds of people demonstrated in Ohio, America

Hundreds of people demonstrated yesterday in Akron, Ohio, in the northern United States, after the broadcast of a video clip showing a black man being shot dead by police.

Gayland Walker, 25, was killed on June 27 while fleeing police after committing a traffic violation, while a very violent video released by police on Sunday showed the young man with bullets piercing his body.

According to the "New York Times", the police explained that Walker had one traffic ticket and no criminal record and that they initially sought to stop him for a traffic violation.

Police said eight officers directly involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave in accordance with department policy.

"A pistol was later found in Mr Walker's car and a bullet casing was found where they said he had fired and that it matches the weapon found in Mr Walker's car," police said during the press conference.

A still photo released by police showed a gun on the seat and a gold ring belonging to Walker's girlfriend, who had recently died in a car accident.

Anti-racism groups had called for a fourth day of protests in Akron, a city of 190,000 people, near Cleveland.

Fearing unrest, the authorities deployed heavy equipment, such as icebreakers, in the vicinity of the police station in order to protect it.

Yesterday, Akron's mayor and police issued calls for calm after a video was released showing police killing a black man whose lawyer said he was shot 60.
