A man in his fifties drowned this weekend in the Bas Rhône canal, in Saint-Gilles, a town in Gard located about 25 kilometers from Nîmes.
His body was pulled out of the water by firefighters at the lock.
Despite the presence of divers and medical reinforcements, the 50-year-old could not be revived by the firefighters.
According to the first elements of the investigation, the man was about to fish with friends.
They are the ones who gave the alert when they discovered belongings belonging to him on the edge of the canal.
