At 31, Goffin, who had already reached the quarters during his last participation in 2019 (defeat against future winner Novak Djokovic), will face there on Tuesday to try to do even better the Briton Cameron Norrie (12th), winner of the American Tommy Paul (32nd) 6-4, 7-5, 6-4.

He also reached the quarters at Roland-Garros 2016 and at the Australian Open 2017 but has never passed this stage in a Grand Slam.

"It was an incredible battle. Right after match point I felt like I was dead. I fought so hard," Goffin commented after his win over Tiafoe.

"Another epic match against Frances and I'm delighted to be back in the quarters," he added, explaining that he was working to regain his "best level", the one that led him to 7th in the world in 2017.

"Last year was very difficult with my injury and on the circuit. I hadn't played here since 2019 and to win four matches in this tournament that I love is incredible," insisted the Belgian.
