The excavation in Julita: "Like a candy store for an archaeologist"

Parts of road 56 will be widened, including the Katrineholm-Alberga section.

Along it, near Julita, there is an ancient monument where archaeological investigations have been carried out before construction can begin.

5,500 years old settlement

The ancient monument is a larger settlement from the Peasant Stone Age, about 5,500 years ago, and archaeologists have secured about 25,000 finds.

Henrik Runeson says that the people who lived on the site were farmers and that it was probably easy to grow on the sandy ridges.

Judging by the findings, archaeologists believe that the peasants lived in some kind of longhouse.

Residues of domestic animals

- Probably it has not only been a farm, but several farms may have existed here at the same time.

In addition to growing, they had domestic animals.

We have found bones from sheep, goats, pigs and probably also from cows, says Henrik Runeson.
