On 30 June, the government decided on a new investigation that will produce concrete proposals for a ban on profiteering for independent schools.

Magdalena Andersson emphasizes that the investigation must ensure that a possible ban cannot be circumvented.

- So we not only want to ban the withdrawal, but also make sure that all possible loopholes are closed, says Magdalena Andersson (S).

This is not the first time the issue of profiteering in schools has been on the Riksdag's table.

In 2018, a vote was taken which was even then initiated by the Social Democrats, as well as the Left Party, after an investigation of companies in health care and school.

The then proposal was voted down.

According to SVT's domestic policy commentator Mats Knutson, the proposal is an attempt to shift focus to an issue the Social Democrats believe they can win votes on.

National school choice system

The government will soon present a proposal to stop new religious independent schools.

- We have seen examples of how pro-violence Islamists that Säpo has warned about run schools for our tax money, says Magdalena Andersson (S).

The government has also commissioned the National Agency for Education to come up with proposals on what a new national school choice system might look like.

This is because the current system is unfair and messy, Andersson says.

- A national school choice can increase transparency and legal security and also reduce school segregation, says Magdalena Andersson (S).
