The always convulsive Madrid PSOE returns to live moments of tension.

What was going to be a calm municipal convention to debate the party's proposals became the showcase of internal socialist struggles, given the proximity of the primaries to elect

the municipal candidate.

During her speech at the convention

,

the deputy general secretary of the PSOE, Adriana Lastra, urged her party not to waste "a second" to "recover Madrid for the people", and was convinced that

Mercedes González and Juan Lobato

will be "two extraordinary leaders" of the capital and of the Madrid community.

The socialist leader thus pointed to González,

current delegate of the Government of Madrid

, as a future candidate, despite the fact that she has not yet been named nor have the primaries been called, in front of Mar Espinar, the spokeswoman for the Madrid City Council, who yesterday launched harsh criticism against the party.

Espinar also aspired to present himself as a socialist candidate for the Madrid City Council.

Yesterday's session ended with a very harsh intervention by Espinar, who warned of the picture of the collapse facing the Madrid Socialist Party and warned his co-religionists:

"Either we go back (in the next elections) or the dream is over"

.

The Socialist spokeswoman began her speech by explaining that in the 1980s, the Socialists

won more than 800,000 votes in Madrid

, a figure that has fallen to 200,000 because, as she said, "the PSOE has not spoken the language of the majority in this city and we have been passed on the right and on the left. It is as if we were cycling on a highway and, sometimes, even in the opposite direction".

With a speech focused on the analysis of that debacle, Espinar insisted that we socialists

"cannot afford to screw up again"

and asked "to get out of the dynamics that have brought us here", without pessimism and with the feeling that "the glass is half full and not half empty".

Look forward

In a very different tone spoke Mercedes González, who

asked to "look forward"

with respect to the electoral results of the party and pointed out that the convention is "a commitment to militancy."

«We have to re-enter the place we should never have left,

which is the hegemony of the left

.

The people of Madrid have already had experiments, tests, platforms and it has not worked, "added the Government delegate.

For his part, the general secretary of the socialists in the Community of Madrid, Juan Lobato, also reproached Espinar and defended this Sunday that the Madrid PSOE

"is neither for nostalgia nor for defeatism."

"At this stage

we have raised our heads

, with pride, without sorrow or depression. It is enough to lick up ideas. We have to go all out in Madrid", he launched from the Palacio de Cibeles, where the PSOE Madrid Ciudad has celebrated its municipal convention ten months before the elections.
