Typhoon Chaba hit Hong Kong late yesterday, bringing heavy rain and strong winds, but it did not cause serious damage to the region, according to local official sources.

Authorities said more than two dozen crew members were missing after the ship was split in half in the waters off Hong Kong as Tropical Storm Chapa passed.

And the government's aviation service announced the rescue of three crew members of the ship, which was carrying 30 people, and said that search and rescue operations were continuing 300 km southwest of the city.

She stated that some crew members had left the ship and that severe weather conditions were hampering rescue efforts.

Chapa passed along the international financial center, causing torrential rains and strong winds, disrupting the city's public transport and forcing many businesses to close.

Local television showed large waves hitting the beaches, reaching some thrill-seekers who gathered, braving strong winds, in the place to enjoy the harsh weather conditions.
