The site of the Gutian meeting was originally the ancestral hall of the Liao family. In May 1929, the Red Army entered Gutian in western Fujian for the first time, and it was renamed "Dawning Primary School".
In December of that year, the Ninth Congress of the Fourth Red Army chaired by Comrade Mao Zedong was held here, and the resolution of the historic Gutian Conference was passed.
