On July 1, local time, the official ceremony for the Czech Republic to replace France as the rotating presidency of the European Union was held at the Litomyšl Castle in the Czech Republic.

Czech Prime Minister Fiala, President of the European Commission von der Leyen and representatives of both parties attended the ceremony and held a meeting.

The Czech Republic thus began a six-month term of the EU rotating presidency.

  At a press conference after the meeting, Czech Prime Minister Fiala said that the Czech government and the European Commission will mainly deal with energy issues and Ukraine issues.

Fiala said that ending the conflict in Ukraine and rebuilding his country is the key to solving the problems the EU is currently facing.

In addition to the Ukraine issue, the Czech government also regards energy security as the focus of its rotating presidency.

Fiala said solidarity and coordination among EU member states is the key to successfully addressing this challenge.

  European Commission President Von der Leyen and Fiala agreed that the situation in Ukraine and energy issues are the areas that need the most attention.

Von der Leyen stressed the need to agree on such measures between the European Commission, the Council and the European Parliament.
