The UNESCO-United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization has registered the "Borscht" tradition, which is widely eaten in Ukraine, as an "intangible cultural heritage that needs urgent protection" as it is threatened by a military invasion by Russia.

Borsch is a soup made from root vegetable beets and has been passed down throughout Ukraine for a long time.



This traditional culture was registered by the UNESCO Intergovernmental Commission on July 1st as "Intangible Cultural Heritage in Urgent Need for Protection".



"Not only is it impossible to cook borscht and grow the vegetables that are the ingredients, but the community that gathers and enjoys it is at stake," he said, citing the threat of survival due to the Russian military invasion. doing.



The deliberations were originally scheduled for next year, but have been accelerated by the Russian military invasion.



Borsch is also eaten in Russia and the former Soviet countries, and UNESCO says that this registration is not recognized as a dish unique to Ukraine.
