A man in his thirties was arrested on Tuesday in Nîmes (Gard), after a wave of thefts by trickery on elderly people,

The 30-year-old, a homeless man, is suspected of having posed as a chimney sweep to extort money from the victims.

A dozen victims have so far been identified, between January and June, in Nîmes.

The man is suspected of having raged in other departments, Hérault and Vaucluse, before attacking the elderly in Gard.

In total, according to the police, there could be around forty victims.
