A tax officer is being prosecuted for embezzlement of public funds to the detriment of the Intercommunal Hospital Center of Poissy Saint-Germain-en-Laye (Yvelines), AFP learned on Thursday from the Versailles Research Section.

This 29-year-old agent is suspected of having embezzled more than 155,000 euros.

Arrested on Wednesday, he was placed on Thursday under judicial supervision with a view to a summons by report in November.

The investigation began more than a year ago, in April 2021, after the complaint by the departmental director of public finances who denounced two types of fraud to the detriment of the hospital center.

“On the one hand, reimbursements of hospitalization or consultation costs are made by transfers to natural persons unrelated […] to the users who are normally beneficiaries, via falsified bank identity statements”, tell the investigators of the Versailles Research Section in a press release sent to AFP.

Funds withdrawn in cash

“On the other hand, sums recorded in specific accounts intended to be donated to local authorities are diverted and fraudulently paid to natural persons”, thanks to “changes in bank details made in the hospital center treasury software” , continue the investigators.

“Financial and asset analyses” make it possible to identify “about twenty beneficiary accounts”.

Behind these accounts: the tax agent, made it possible to conclude searches and hearings carried out on Wednesday.

The embezzled funds were then "withdrawn in cash" or "used for purchases in luxury brands", specify the investigators.
