The Ouest Élevage company, a subsidiary of the Laïta dairy (Even group), was sentenced on Friday by the Brest criminal court to a fine of 50,000 euros for acts of cruelty to calves revealed in a video from the L214 association.

Two other Finistère calf breeding companies, Gaec de Restparcou and Scea Jestin, prosecuted for animal abuse, have been released.

Their representatives had not acknowledged the facts during the trial which was held on April 1st.

Also prosecuted in this case, the animal protection association L214, as well as its director of investigations Sébastien Arsac, have been released.

The association's co-founder was being prosecuted for "home invasion" and "invasion of privacy" for broadcasting a video showing acts of cruelty and mistreatment of animals.

In this one, we saw young calves being manhandled with kicks and punches, locked in very small enclosures or even being euthanized because they were sick or too thin.

In another case of animal abuse revealed after a video by the L214 association, the Quimper criminal court sentenced the SBA sow slaughterhouse in Briec on June 27, belonging to the Les Mousquetaires group (Intermarché), to a fine of 21,500 euros.

In the video, sows were seen being pushed with kicks and electric prods in the anus or in the eyes, while some were dragged on the ground.
