They thus join Caroline Garcia, Diane Parry and Ugo Humbert for a total of six Blues in the 3rd round.

On the other hand, for their first Wimbledon, Benjamin Bonzi, Hugo Grenier and Hugo Gaston did not manage to pass the course of the 2nd round.

It Passes (Tan, Cornet, Gasquet)

"It's true that it's always difficult to confirm after a big match like that", admitted Harmony Tan (115th), very happy to have chained her victory over Queen Serena with a success 6-3, 6- 4 against the Spaniard Sara Sorribes (45th) with a less eloquent record.

But the score does not reflect the effort she had to make to recover after more than three hours of fighting against Williams, including a sore thigh that forced her to give up the doubles on Wednesday.

"I was really not well at all yesterday (Wednesday), I had trouble climbing stairs, I had really quite huge pain in my thigh and I saw the WTA physios who told me told not to play the double because it could make it worse," she said.

At 24, she therefore advances an additional box in her first Wimbledon and will face the Briton Katie Boulter (118th).

With much more experience, Alizé Cornet (37th), who is playing her fifteenth Wimbledon at 32, dominated 6-3, 6-3 the American Claire Liu (75th), physically impaired after a slip.

But to find the round of 16, as in 2014, she will have to pass a much more impressive obstacle: the world N.1 and favorite of the tournament Iga Swiatek.

For his part, Richard Gasquet (69th) dominated the American Mackenzie McDonald (55th) 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.

If he is happy to have delivered a "solid match" which allows him to climb to the third round which he had not reached since 2016, the double semi-finalist (2007, 2015) does not draw any more a misplaced joy: "He (McDonald) is 60th in the world, he is not Top 10 either!"

The next round, against the Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp (25th), will be another story.

"He's a solid guy, who plays better (than McDonald). He has a big serve, he hits the ball hard," said Gasquet, while insisting that he was not "unplayable" either.

The two players had faced each other in January in the second round of the Australian Open but, after winning the first round, Gasquet had to give up on injury in the third.

It breaks (Gaston, Grenier, Bonzi)

Hugo Grenier and Benjamn Bonzi could face off in the third round of their first Wimbledon.

But none of them will be there since they fell on stronger than them on Thursday.

Bonzi (47th) gave American Jenson Brooksby (34th) a hard time but had to lose 7-6 (7-3), 7-5, 6-3.

As for Grenier (141st), lucky loser following Gaël Monfils' package, he was clearly dominated by the Chilean Cristian Garin (43rd) 6-3, 6-1, 6-1.

End of the adventure also for Hugo Gaston (66th), beaten by the Italian Lorenzo Sonego (54th) 7-6 (7-4), 6-4, 6-4.

Doubly a shame because a victory could have allowed him to play a prestigious match on one of the great courts of Wimbledon, against Rafael Nadal.
