Europe 1 Studio SEASON 2021 - 202207:00 a.m., June 30, 2022

Discover the story dedicated to Louis and Auguste Lumière, two brothers who played a decisive role in the history of photography and cinema.

On his return from military service, Auguste discovers his family in debt.

The "patriarch", Antoine Lumière, entrusts them with the mission of saving the family business.

How are they going to make it prosper?

In this second part of the episode produced by Europe 1 Studio, Clémentine Portier-Kaltenbach tells how the Lumière brothers take over their father's workshop.

In this new episode of the "At the heart of history" podcast, Clémentine Portier-Kaltenbach continues her story of the Lumière family's contribution to photography in the 19th century.

The Lumière brothers, Auguste and Louis, wanted their Lyon workshop to be synonymous with artistic, technical and social progress.

One day, Louis brings back a revolutionary device: it is the kinetoscope, an invention of the American industrialist Thomas Edison, which makes it possible to animate photographic images.

Louis and Auguste then undertake to develop themselves a device capable of surpassing all the others.

They want to put science at the service of art, and succeed in bringing the image out of its darkroom to project it onto an external support visible to all... This story is a Europe 1 Studio production.
