The ruling puts an end to a six-year process and establishes the detailed plan adopted by the City of Stockholm two years ago.

The amusement park may thus expand the amusement park over the adjacent car park.

In April 2020, the City of Stockholm adopted the detailed plan for the expansion of Gröna Lund - a decision that was supported by the County Administrative Board in Stockholm.

But in May 2021, the decision was revoked by the Land and Environmental Court on the grounds that the site's national interest must be investigated.

The assessment: Do not destroy environmental values

The Supreme Land and Environmental Court writes that the area is part of the more built-up parts of the National City Park, which for the most part consists of paved surface.

The parking area itself thus has no natural values, the ruling states.

- We're devastated.

The ruling opens the way for all kinds of destruction of cultural values, not only in the National City Park but throughout the country, says Richard Murray, chairman of the Association for the Ecopark.

Housing must be taken into account

The ruling states that the city's detailed plan shall apply.

The planned area, which is located in the southwestern part of Djurgården, covers approximately 1.1 hectares.

The ruling clarifies that disturbing and flashing lights must be able to be regulated so that residents in the immediate area are not negatively affected.
