A 25-year-old man was shot and killed while driving his car on the night of Wednesday to Thursday in Grenoble (Isère).
In another part of town, another man was shot and injured as he left a restaurant, police said.
The first victim, shot in the head and chest, succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
The shooter on the run
The second victim, a 23-year-old man, suffered a calf injury after being shot five times, he said.
He joined his car leaving the restaurant, say the authorities.

The shooter, who fled on foot according to a witness who alerted the police, is wanted.
The investigation was entrusted to police officers from the Grenoble branch of the judicial police.
