The otter is increasing sharply throughout Sweden according to Anna Roos, curator at the Swedish Museum of Natural History.

- The increase did not come until 1990 in northern Sweden and ten years later it also came to southern Sweden and Småland, says Anna Roos.

Near die out

During the 1950s, the tribe declined sharply in Sweden and then the otter was on the verge of extinction altogether.

If you look at Kronoberg County, there has been a shortage of otters in the western part, but now it is also increasing there.

- Even when there were at least otters in Sweden, there were in the Småland highlands, says Anna Roos.
