It was a day for political geeks, this Tuesday, at the National Assembly.

After the election, for the first time, of a woman - Yael Braun Pivet - at the head of the institution on Tuesday, it was time for the election of the office of the Assembly (vice-presidencies and secretariat) and the questure (which manages the stewardship of the lower house).

After a day of rumors, the results finally took less time than expected, offering a historic and not only symbolic victory to the RN.

The winners of the day

RN deputies did well to get up this morning.

By winning two vice-presidential positions, the party is the big winner of the day.

It is even a historic victory: in 1986 the FN had not been entitled to it.

In the Salle des Quatre Colonnes, in front of the journalists, Sébastien Chenu, one of the new vice-presidents, played it modest, but the symbol is there: “Now the office reflects what the National Assembly is.

We have put an end to caricatures, we are not here to deconstruct, we are here to work.

We will preside impartially.

Hélène Laporte, the other winner from the far right, even speaks of a “great moment for democracy”.

If Marine Le Pen was looking for respectability, she found a nice package this Wednesday at the Palais Bourdon.

The true-false deal of the day

La Nupes – and especially rebellious France – has been accusing since the end of the morning at all costs the macronists, LR and the RN of having agreed to: keep a questure (which manages the stewardship of the National Assembly) at LR, give two vice-presidencies to the RN.

In fact, that is what happened.

And by obtaining 290 and 284 votes, the two candidates of the RN obtained nearly 200 votes which do not come from the far right.

So there are macronist voices in there.

Did the majority vote RN?

There, it is very very confused: some affirm that, at Renaissance, instruction was given to vote only for the candidates of the majority, others that “it is more complicated”.

On the left, of course, we are not angry: “The masks are falling (…) On the ballot papers,

we have the demonstration that LREM called to vote National Front (sic) ”, announces the ecologist Julien Bayou just after the proclamation of the results.

"In two months we went from" dam to the RN "to" elect two vice-presidents of the National Assembly of the RN ", it's a quick turn", chokes the Insoumis Bastien Lachaud.

The good excuse of the day

Oh that, we heard about the points and the rules.

It is clearly behind what the majority takes refuge to justify the election of two vice-presidents of the RN.

“It's not an agreement, it's points!

“, proclaimed the deputy MoDem Erwan Balanant.

What ?

In theory, to respect proportionality in the allocation of positions, each group has a number of points to spend on more or less expensive positions.

Except that it's not binding: without a global agreement from all the groups, the points don't really count anymore.

Not giving positions to the RN would have been "distorting and rigging republican institutions", defends Aurore Bergé, the head of the Renaissance group (ex-LREM).

In truth, the regulations do not impose any choice: if there was a political will to dismiss the RN, to set up a “sanitary cord” around him, it was possible.

This was the case in 1986. This is also the case in Germany or in the European Parliament, despite dozens and dozens of far-right elected representatives in these chambers.

Dividing the posts between all the forces, including the extreme right, is another choice, no less political.

The little tension of the day

The ecologists, by presenting two candidates to force a vote, tried, a little in desperation, to block the election of two vice-presidents of the RN.

Coming out of the woods at the last moment and a priori without consulting the Nupes partners, they still caused a little discomfort on the left.

“They didn't quite play the collective game right to the end,” said a socialist deputy modestly during the vote.

For the greens, no problem that the rest of the Nupes did not follow: "It's a moment of truth for the presidential majority, not a distrust of our partners", affirmed during the vote Benjamin Lucas, one of the green candidates. .

But, by collecting only about thirty votes, the green initiative also revealed that, even if they probably did not vote RN, the rest of the Nupes did not completely block.
