Around 50 citizens gathered on the Römerberg on Wednesday evening for the protest rally against Lord Mayor Peter Feldmann (SPD), which was initiated by the “woman with the sign” and demanded the resignation of Frankfurt’s mayor.

The participants carried posters with inscriptions such as "Feldmann, Fatzke, parasite, fraudster" or "Offenbach have pity, give us your mayor".

Another had written: "Resignation saves us 1.6 million."

The demonstration was supported by the Frankfurt Young Liberals.

"We are tired of having to ask Peter Feldmann over and over again to finally vacate his post," said Deputy Chairman Dominik Rauth, explaining the commitment.

And July boss Johannes Ofen said on the fringes of the event: Peter Feldmann is a shame with his "reality-distant behavior on the part of the city of Frankfurt".

Feldmann should "finally leave the field".

"Resignation is not an admission of guilt"

The "woman with the sign" is a woman from Frankfurt who has been publicly calling on the mayor to resign since the European Cup reception on the Römerberg.

At first she only did this with the said sign in her hand, on which she wrote: "Resign Feldmann now!!!".

Since the beginning of June she has also been collecting signatures on postcards, also with the demand for resignation.

By the time of the rally, she had forwarded 1,300 copies, signed by Frankfurters and citizens from neighboring municipalities who also wished for a different mayor for Frankfurt.

The activist also has handkerchiefs with her for the rally.

Right at the beginning, she asks the participants to use this so that Feldmann can see that "we are not just here today, but actually want to wave goodbye to him".

Later she turns directly to Feldmann.

"Resignation is not an admission of guilt," she said.

"If you resign your office, you are showing your responsibility for the city and the citizens." Feldmann, who has to answer in court on suspicion of corruption, should prove his innocence in court, "but please as a private individual, not as Frankfurt's mayor".

Your appeal goes unheeded that evening.

Peter Feldmann did not appear in front of the town hall.
